Message from the Director
Chang Hwa Hospital moved to the new place four years ago. At that time, Chang Hwa Hospital left the downtown area in Chang Hwa and came to Pu Hsin Hsiang, a place without noises and crowds like hospitals in bigger cities. However, the brand new hospital site, smooth moving lines, and the environment full of public arts did help to rebuild the looks of Chang Hwa Hospital and get rid of the old and banal atmosphere.
The new Chang Hwa Hospital was supported by the allied hospitals in the first two years. It was aimed at developing respiratory therapy, kidney dialysis, rehabilitation and chronic care therapy and established a good foundation. In recent years, Chang Hwa Hospital has been positively recruiting newcomers, introducing expensive medical devices and equipment as well as setting up ICUs for acute and critical care. The hardware in Chang Hwa Hospital has been fully developed. The main development has turned from chronic care therapy to acute and critical care.
As the medical business works are growing, we constantly review the cooperation and service quality shown and provided by the medical teams. Balance score card is used to improve the internal organization. The boundaries of divisions in the administration departments have been broken to achieve horizontal integration. The participation of doctors and medical personnel in flow reform and operations of core teams further integrates administration and medical care and deepens organizational reform.
The full utility of hardware, gradual organizational reform and citizens’ positive feedback have helped Chang Hwa Hospital become a necessary place in south Chang Hwa for providing medical care.
Being a public hospital, the functions of Chang Hwa Hospital are getting more important in south Chang Hwa. The population in south Chang Hwa is 660,000. 8 doctors averagely provide services for 100,000 people. 100,000 people share 17 beds for acute care. The above figures are far lower than these in north Chang Hwa. In north Chang Hwa, 22 doctors averagely provide services for 100,000. 100,000 people share 53 beds for acute care. The support in psychiatric care is far from sufficiency. Therefore, many patients have not but to stay at home without receiving proper medical care. In recent two years, Chang Hwa Hospital has set up 100 beds for psychiatric care and 50 beds for acute care, which fulfills the needs for psychiatric care in time in south Chang Hwa. This is the responsibility a public hospital should take.
Chang Hwa Hospital has been working hard to ensure 660,000 residents in south Chang Hwa to be able to receive quality medical care at the place they live. In addition to the quality of medical care, convenient service flow, etc., Chang Hwa Hospital develops its close connections and interactions with the communities. Chang Hwa Hospital continues to devote itself to compulsory diagnosis, hygiene education, medical related lecturers, establishments of community medical care teams, positive participation in the prevention and treatment network for chronic diseases, communications with basic medical organizations and offering resources. We expect that Chang Hwa Hospital can become a good local hospital with good doctors. We hope to put local medical care into effect so as to save local people’s time and hard trips to seek for help in other places.
